EA to lay off 3% of staff and shut down BioWare

Electronic Arts is laying off about 3% of its employees, around 400 staff according to Variety, and shutting BioWare, developer of Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. In a memo dated Wednesday, 21 October 2026, EA said it will close BioWare's Edmonton office and has decided against a new Mass Effect.
