PETA asks Crystal Palace to retire live eagle mascot Phoenix

Animal rights group PETA has asked Crystal Palace to retire Phoenix, its live bald eagle mascot, with immediate effect. In a letter to chief executive Sharon Lacey, PETA also asked the club to stop using Phoenix in pre-match displays and never to use a live animal mascot again. Palace first brought a live eagle to matchdays in 2010.
