OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Sol hits 97.9% on COBOL translation test

OpenAI says its GPT-6.1 Sol model translated COBOL, a legacy banking language, into C++, Java, Kotlin, Python or Rust with 97.9% accuracy when given more time to reason, compared with 86.6% with less effort. The company says real-world use still needs expert review and testing against business rules and dependencies.
