Kashmir leaders oppose plan for uniform Friday sermons
Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and the Mirwaiz opposed a proposal by the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, which oversees Muslim endowments, for uniform themes for Friday sermons in mosques and shrines across Indian-administered Kashmir. They described it as political interference threatening religious autonomy. Board head Darakshan Andrabi said scholars, not officials, would approve sermons to tackle drug abuse.
