Tropical Storm Rachel Remnants Destroy Century-Old Long Beach Boardwalk

Long Beach’s 100-year-old boardwalk was destroyed this weekend by waves from what was left of Tropical Storm Rachel. The surf slammed into beachfront homes, washing away sand under their foundations. At least nine properties were declared unsafe to enter, triggering a mandatory evacuation order. The city spent over $1 million in emergency funds on the response.
