9/11 forced last-minute GTA 3 cover redesign that became series signature

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser told IGN the original GTA 3 box art, showing burning buildings, was deemed too offensive to release after 9/11. Artist Stephen Bliss replaced it in about two evenings with split blocks and shards. Houser said that fractured grid only appeared because of 9/11. GTA 3 was released in October 2001.
