Street racing now means automatic 28-day car impound

Parliament passed the Antisocial Road Use Legislation Amendment Bill on 30 June, making vehicle impoundment for street racing mandatory rather than discretionary. Police Minister Mark Mitchell said the law strengthens officers' tools to protect communities. Judges and officers no longer make case-by-case calls; the 28-day consequence is now fixed in statute.
