Street racing now triggers automatic 28-day vehicle impound

Parliament passed the Antisocial Road Use Legislation Amendment Bill on 30 June, converting vehicle impoundment for street racing from a police discretion into a mandatory 28-day order. Police Minister Mark Mitchell said the law gives officers stronger tools to protect communities. The shift removes judgment calls from arresting officers and anchors consequences in statute.
