NSW Takes Town Hall Square Approval From Sydney Council

Sydney's council can no longer approve its Town Hall Square project. NSW Planning Minister Paul Scully declared it a state significant development — a category for major projects decided at state level — on 9 October 2026. Scully said he followed advice from the Independent Planning Commission. He remains decision-maker unless he passes the role to the Commission.
