French senators propose abolishing top translation funder from 2027
Two right-wing French senators have proposed closing France's Centre National du Livre from 2027 under a budget-cut plan. The body awarded €1,752,663 in translation grants, payments covering part of publishers' translator costs, in 2025. That was the largest total in the ENLIT network, 30 publicly funded bodies supporting literary translation, figures shared at Frankfurter Buchmesse show.
