UK 10-year gilt yields hit highest since 2007

UK 10-year gilt yields — the return on UK government bonds — climbed 0.06 points to 5.515% by lunchtime in London on 8 October 2026, the highest since July 2007. Investors sold bonds worldwide on inflation worries as oil prices jumped. 20- and 30-year gilt yields hit levels not seen since 1998.
