Sainsbury's ended merger talks with Morrisons
Sainsbury's held multibillion-pound merger talks with Morrisons from November 2025 to February 2026, then walked away. Sainsbury's is Britain's second-largest grocer, Morrisons sixth. Together they would control 23.6% of grocery sales, close to Tesco's 27.8%, according to Worldpanel by Numerator. Both declined to comment. Regulators — the CMA — blocked Sainsbury's £7bn Asda bid in 2019.
