North Carolina musician jailed 18 months in first US streaming fraud case

Mike Smith of North Carolina was sentenced to 18 months in prison for collecting more than $8 million in royalties, the per-play payments from streaming platforms, through bot streams, according to Forbes and Pitchfork. The Justice Department described the case as its first criminal prosecution for AI-assisted music streaming fraud.
