California sea level will rise 6 to 12 inches temporarily as a Pacific Kelvin wave arrives. The pulse carries warm western Pacific water east during El Niño, deepening the thermocline, the warm-cold water divide, and lifting ocean height 12 to 18 miles offshore. Eastern Pacific surface temperatures were 5 degrees Celsius above normal October 4th.
