Warm Pacific Pulse to Raise California Sea Level
California sea level will rise 6 to 12 inches temporarily as a Pacific pulse called a Kelvin wave arrives. During El Niño it brings warm western Pacific water east, pushing down the boundary between warm and cold water and lifting ocean height 12 to 18 miles offshore. Eastern Pacific surface water was 5 degrees Celsius above normal October 4th.
