Justice Committee approves English Language Bill without changes

The Justice Select Committee has recommended the English Language Bill pass unchanged, allowing Parliament to formally recognise English as an official language alongside te reo Māori and New Zealand Sign Language. English has never had official status despite centuries of use in government and the courts. The bill returns to the House for its second reading.
