Parliament set to formally recognise English as an official language

A parliamentary committee has backed a bill to make English an official language, alongside te reo Māori and New Zealand Sign Language. English has been used in government and courts for hundreds of years but has never had formal recognition. The bill now goes back to Parliament for a vote.
