Ofcom Probes Meta Over Safety Checks for Instagram Instants

Ofcom opened an investigation, disclosed 6 October 2026, into Meta’s Instagram Instants, where images disappear after viewing, for possible breach of the UK’s Online Safety Act, the law setting safety duties for platforms. It will check if Meta assessed illegal-content and child-access risks before launch, as required for major updates. Meta says it did and will cooperate.
