Ofcom investigates Meta over Instagram Instants safety checks

Ofcom has opened an investigation, disclosed 6 October 2026, into Meta over Instagram Instants, a disappearing-image feature, for possible breach of the UK's Online Safety Act. The regulator will examine whether Meta assessed risks of illegal content and child access before launch, as required for major design changes. Meta says it did assess risks and will cooperate.
