Home Office to add 3,750 asylum places at military sites

The Home Office announced plans on 26 June 2026 to reopen three surplus military sites in Oxfordshire, Suffolk, and Yorkshire for asylum accommodation. The expansion of a scheme begun in spring 2023 aims to reduce dependence on hotel housing. These three sites would represent the largest single capacity increase since the programme launched.
