Home Office to expand military asylum sites with 3,750 new places

The Home Office announced on 26 June 2026 plans to open three surplus military sites in Oxfordshire, Suffolk, and Yorkshire to house approximately 3,750 asylum seekers. The expansion extends a scheme launched in spring 2023 to reduce reliance on hotel accommodation. The three new sites would represent the largest single capacity increase since the programme began.
