Government to house asylum seekers at old military bases

The Home Office said on 26 June 2026 it would use three closed military sites in Oxfordshire, Suffolk, and Yorkshire to house about 3,750 asylum seekers. The plan extends a scheme that started in 2023 to move people away from hotels. It is the biggest increase in places since the scheme began.
