Public funding shortage is top threat to heritage sites, World Monuments Fund warns

The World Monuments Fund warned insufficient public funding is the biggest threat to heritage sites. Its study, released 30 September 2026, ranked funding shortages ahead of climate change and expertise gaps. The Fund, active since 1965, says it has worked at more than 700 sites in 112 countries.
