King Haakon VIII opens Norway's parliament for first time as king

King Haakon VIII presided over the solemn opening of the 171st session of the Storting, Norway's single-chamber parliament, in Oslo on October 2. It was his first opening as sovereign after his father King Harald V died August 28. Harald had first opened the Storting on October 2, 1991, 35 years earlier to the day.
