Hochul Taps James as Special Prosecutor for Cornell Assault Case

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Oct. 1 appointed Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor, an outsider, to review the alleged October 2024 gang rape at Cornell. James may file charges and bring evidence to a grand jury, citizens who approve indictments. Hochul said the DA's no-charge decision and questions about Cornell's probe eroded trust in local prosecution.
