Hochul Appoints Letitia James as Special Prosecutor in Cornell Gang-Rape Case

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Oct. 1 appointed Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor to investigate alleged October 2024 gang rape at Cornell University. James can prosecute if warranted and may present evidence to a grand jury. Hochul said the local DA's decision not to charge and questions about the campus investigation undercut faith in local prosecution.
