Wildfire Shuts Key Freight Route Between Manchester and Sheffield

A moorland fire closed the A628 Woodhead Pass on June 24–25, 2026—the main road for heavy trucks moving goods between Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire. Firefighters contained the blaze to about 400 square metres near Glossop. The closure forced freight traffic onto longer alternate routes, straining regional logistics networks.
