Wildfire Closes Peak District's Main Trans-Pennine HGV Route
A wildfire on Tintwistle Moor near Glossop closed the A628 Woodhead Pass—the primary heavy-freight corridor between Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire—on June 24–25, 2026. Firefighters from Derbyshire and Manchester contained the blaze to approximately 400 square metres of moorland. The dual closure forced HGV traffic onto longer routes, disrupting logistics networks across the region.
