Wildfire Shuts Down Major Truck Route Between Manchester and Sheffield

A wildfire on Tintwistle Moor closed the A628 Woodhead Pass on June 24–25, 2026—the main highway trucks use to carry goods between Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire. Firefighters contained the blaze to roughly 400 square metres. The closure forced trucks onto longer routes, disrupting supply chains across the region.
