
MPs tell BBC not to outbid rivals for foreign shows
Parliament’s Culture, Media and Sport Committee said the BBC should not use licence-fee money to outbid rivals for foreign acquisitions, meaning bought-in shows such as Suits and Schitt’s Creek. Paying “over the odds” gives no value for money, its 1 October charter review report said. BBC director general Matt Brittin said acquisitions are under 5% of content spend.
