Becerra and Hilton clash on Trump, taxes in lone California debate

Democrat Xavier Becerra and Republican Steve Hilton met Oct. 1, 2026, in the only planned TV debate in the race for California governor, AP and The New York Times said. The debate lasted an hour. The two clashed over President Trump, taxes and immigration.
