Supreme Court Lifts Stay, Clearing Tennessee to Execute Christa Pike by Midnight

Tennessee can execute Christa Pike, 50, by lethal injection before midnight after the U.S. Supreme Court late Sept. 30 lifted a 2-1 pause from the 6th Circuit. The pause would have allowed time to consider whether her childhood sexual abuse claims were weighed at sentencing. It gave no reason; three liberal justices dissented. Corrections officials plan it Wednesday night.
