U.S., Iraq Announce Final Troop Withdrawal

The last American troops will leave bases in Iraq, U.S. and Iraqi officials announced September 30, 2026. The withdrawal carries out a plan from 2024 and closes a U.S.-led military presence that began with the 2003 invasion. Officials have not yet defined what remaining security cooperation will follow.
