Last American Soldiers to Leave Iraq

The last U.S. soldiers will leave their bases in Iraq, American and Iraqi officials announced September 30, 2026. It follows a 2024 agreement and ends a U.S.-led military presence that started with the 2003 invasion, like closing a long-open outpost. Officials have not yet said what future security help will continue.
