Sony patent application details PlayStation controller with tap-to-pay

Sony filed a patent application in March 2025 for a PlayStation controller that accepts contactless payments via NFC, short-range tap-to-pay wireless. The filing, titled 'Video Game Controller-Driven Information Transfer', describes tapping a card or phone on the pad to buy games, credits and add-ons. The pad sends details to the console. No product has been announced.
