Alternative education system fails Māori students, review finds

The Education Review Office has found alternative education providers lack adequate facilities, qualified teachers and transition planning. Māori students are over-represented in the sector, where attendance fell sharply between 2015 and 2019 and deteriorated further during COVID-19. Quality shortfalls hit hardest those students already facing compounding disadvantage.
