Conservatives propose 30% Universal Credit cut after six months

The Conservatives have proposed cutting the Universal Credit benefit to 70% of the standard rate — a new Subsistence Allowance — for people judged fit to work but still jobless after six months without sufficient contributions. The BBC reported on 23 September the party said 350,000 would be affected, saving £538m a year. Sick, disabled and in-work claimants would be exempt.
