Conservatives propose 30% Universal Credit cut for long-term jobless

The Conservatives have proposed cutting Universal Credit to 70% of the full rate, a new “Subsistence Allowance”, for those judged fit to work who remain jobless after six months without sufficient contributions. The BBC reported on 23 September the party said 350,000 would be affected, saving £538m a year. Sick, disabled and in-work claimants would be exempt.
