Sam Smith and Normani ordered to jury trial in 'Dancing With a Stranger' copyright case

US District Judge Wesley L. Hsu denied Sam Smith and Normani's motion for summary judgment on Sept. 22 and ordered a jury trial over claims their 2019 hit 'Dancing With a Stranger' copied Jordan Vincent's 2015 song of the same name. The judge said "the question of independent creation should be left for the jury to decide."
