AI Finds Unknown Gene-Editing Parts in Bacteria Viruses

Anthropic says its AI, Claude, alone found an unknown group of proteins linked to CRISPR, a gene-editing tool, in viruses that attack bacteria. Reported Sept. 23, it is the first discovery from Anthropic's new biology lab. Claude spotted the pattern in a library of genetic code; staff gave only the instruction and ran lab tests. What it does remains unknown.
