Madrid Police Use Teargas to Evict Disabled 87-Year-Old

Madrid riot police fired teargas and repeatedly baton-charged hundreds of overnight protesters in El Retiro on Sept. 23 to let court officers, a judicial committee, evict Maricarmen, 87, rated 50% disabled. The order succeeded on the fourth attempt. Tenants' unions and actors Carlos Bardem and Ana Belén joined the blockade. She had lived there 71 years.
