UK Proposes Mandatory Search Choice on Android and Chrome

Google and Android phone makers could be legally required in the UK to offer a choice of search engine during Android setup or first opening of Chrome, instead of defaulting to Google Search. The Competition and Markets Authority published the updated proposal on 23 September 2026, including a yearly repeat prompt.
