Greens propose wealth tax as major parties enter 2026 campaign

The Green Party released its 2026 election tax platform on 21 June, proposing a 2.5 percent annual levy on net assets exceeding $2 million. The plan also includes a $10,000 tax-free income threshold and a guaranteed minimum income of $385 per week after tax. Labour and National have not previously campaigned on a wealth tax.
