U.S. Gains Two Greenland Defence Areas in September 22 Deal

The U.S. can set up two new Defence Areas — designated military zones — at Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig, and modernize and expand Pituffik Space Base. The U.S., Denmark and Greenland signed the deal September 22, 2026, at the UN General Assembly in New York, amending the 1951 agreement and reaffirming Danish sovereignty over Greenland.
