
Review says Reserve Bank held rates low too long after Covid
An independent review by Athanasios Orphanides and David Archer says the Reserve Bank was right to cut the official cash rate — the rate that sets borrowing costs — to 0.25% during Covid. But it says support stayed in place too long, as the economy bounced back faster than expected, taking a year to pull back.
