B.C. Sues OpenAI in California Over Tumbler Ridge Shooting

British Columbia said Sept. 21 it will sue OpenAI in California, saying the company did not alert police to threats made on its chatbot before the February 2026 shooting in Tumbler Ridge that killed eight. The province joins families with separate lawsuits. The case tests what AI companies must report, and where they can face court.
