British Columbia sues OpenAI in California over Tumbler Ridge shooting

British Columbia announced Sept. 21 it is filing suit against OpenAI in California, alleging failure to notify law enforcement of threats on its platform before the February 2026 Tumbler Ridge shooting that killed eight. The province joins families pursuing separate claims. The filing raises cross-border questions about what AI firms must report and where they can be sued.
