Labour would keep landlord interest rules unchanged

Labour leader Chris Hipkins said Labour would keep interest deductibility for landlords if elected. It lets landlords count mortgage interest as a cost against rental income, restored in 2024. The New Zealand Property Investors Federation welcomed the promise. Hipkins said he did not want to give landlords a reason to raise rents while living costs are high, RNZ reported.
