Labour says it would leave landlord tax rules alone

Labour leader Chris Hipkins said Labour would leave tax rules for landlords unchanged if elected. Landlords can subtract mortgage interest from rent before tax, under rules brought back in 2024. The New Zealand Property Investors Federation welcomed the pledge. Hipkins said he did not want to give landlords a reason to raise rents while living costs are high, RNZ reported.
