Labour promises no change to landlord interest deductions if elected

Labour leader Chris Hipkins said Labour would leave landlord interest deductibility unchanged if elected. The New Zealand Property Investors Federation welcomed the commitment. Hipkins said he did not want to give landlords an excuse to raise rents amid cost-of-living pressures. Landlords can deduct mortgage interest against rental income under settings restored in 2024, RNZ reported.
